The Director oversees the University Hospitality Services department.
- The Director is responsible for developing and delivering an effective "one stop conferencing shop" program to grow revenue and provide exceptional service to both internal and external clients including working collaboratively with University vendors coordinating and/or overseeing sales efforts for the Tsongas Center, Inn and Conference Center and other campus facilities.
- The Director will create strategic alliances with internal and external organizations that enhance and expand the Hospitality department throughout the campus seeking and creating profitable revenue growth.
- The Director will, develop a comprehensive revenue strategy which supports the University's overall business development plan and strategic plan.
- The Director will be responsible for overseeing current conferencing efforts and will also be responsible for generating significant new conference and event business including but not limited to a summer conferencing program.
- The Director will plan, identify and execute marketing and promotional efforts; qualify, lead, and develop relationships with potential clients and specific prospects in order to generate proposals and win business.
- Provide active participation in the sales and marketing efforts.
- Direct an effective revenue generating strategy plan.
- Develop and achieve short/long term operational goals and strategies.
- Coordinate and maintain standards of excellence for services while providing vision, leadership and direction for programs.
- Develop and implement the annual department plan.
- Administer solid financial management.
- Achieve measurable objectives.
- Demonstrate sound business judgment and leadership.
- Develop and implement department policies and procedures ensuring they are within established University guidelines and directives.
- Negotiate rental rate agreements.
- Effectively address legal/liability issues relating to the Hospitality Department and to the University as a whole.
- Develop and implement marketing policies to grow revenues and continue to develop the client base as well as maintain partnerships with recurring clients.
- Manage and train a professional, support and student work staff.
- Coordinate and maintain standards of excellence for services while providing vision leadership and direction for conferences, events and functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Seven to ten years of extensive University/higher education experience in sales and marketing, university conferencing services and/or special events management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Previous experience with higher education issues and policies
- Expertise in presentation and communication software such as PowerPoint and scheduling software such as R25 preferred
- Project and team management skills
- Ability to meet rapid deadlines
- High degree of professionalism in internal and external communications
- Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting and selling products and/or services
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students
- Strong interpersonal skills
