Sony to bring PlayStation Vita OS to mobile phones and tablets

Sony has plans to bring PlayStation Vita operating system to tablet computers, in addition to?smartphones. This move by the company is to expand their platform to other gadgets, beyond just mobile gaming.

The news has been confirmed by Kazuo Hirai?who will be appointed as the company's new CEO very soon, where he has also been driving force behind the PlayStation efforts, from the last few years.

Yoshio Matsumoto, Sony Computer Entertainment Senior Vice President, further elaborated the whole idea.?Matsumoto stated that, "If you're asking if we've made it in a way that's expandable, so that it's possible to apply to smartphones and tablets on top of achieving the high responsiveness we need for gaming devices--it is possible," reported Fierce Wireless.

Sony has been using Google's popular Android operating system, as the base OS for their smartphones?and their two tablets. The Vita operating system, running on the PlayStation portable?gaming device, is very similar to a smartphone OS - as it has many similar features, such as apps and mobile functionality.

Even though it the OS might work well with smartphones, the?major issue is the software - which might be a large hurdle for the company.
